Templates

Templates are reusable workspace recipes. Use one when you want the same instrument arrangement with deliberately chosen initialization policies; use a Layout for a particular saved working snapshot.

Apply a Template

  1. Open Layout → Templates….
  2. Inspect the name, description and User/Bundled origin.
  3. Select the intended Template and choose its apply/load action. Resolve any current-workspace protection before replacement.
  4. Inspect the resulting values, generator Enable/Dispatch and Layout identity. Applying a Template creates a workspace; it does not authorize Sending.

Create an editable User Template

  1. Build and review the desired workspace, including optional generators and instance routing.
  2. Choose Layout → Save as Template….
  3. Leave the destination as User for ordinary authoring. Enter a meaningful name and description.
  4. Review the detailed parameter table. Edit a saved-value cell by click/double-click/F2 or Edit selected value…. Supported booleans/enums have suitable choices.
  5. Choose Use Saved Value or Setup Default for each mapped field. Save only after validation; Cancel leaves the original document unchanged.
PolicyMeaning when applied
Use Saved ValueInitialize this field from the Template's canonical value
Setup DefaultResolve a supported field from current Setup; the saved value is retained for switching policy back

Not every field has a Setup mapping. Fixed Use Saved Value rows are intentional. Canonical units and validation apply in the table; changing the visible unit preference elsewhere is not a license to type Fahrenheit into a Kelvin policy row.

Manage origin deliberately

User Templates are editable and can be renamed/deleted using management actions. Compiled bundled Templates are read-only; duplicate one into a User Template for changes. Debug additionally exposes Bundled Template source authoring with a selected source project. That edits source JSON/catalog resources, not immutable bytes inside the running executable. Rebuild to incorporate bundled-source changes into later binaries.

Use User Templates for normal editing and storage. Startup Workspace can select one separately from applying it in the current session.

Illustrated controls

Reading guide: In the detailed editor: destination is at the top; Saved value and Initialization are separate columns; Edit selected value opens the selected supported editor; Save/Cancel finish the document.

The Template manager distinguishes bundled and User entries and provides separate management actions.
